Our Thoughts:

This tool is not a lock for everyone's entry-tool bag but, if it does make sense for you to carry a tubular pick then it will probably end up being a life-saver. Not all tubular locks and not all tubular picks are created equel. There are different pin configurations in tubular locks (most commonly 7-pin and 8-pin), and some tubuler locks have a shift, or an offset, in the lock meaning that if your tool attacks the lock head-on, you may not be aligned correctly. If none of this makes sense to you than a tubular pick is probably not for you.

If this is, however, a tool that makes sense to put into your load out, here is my recommendation to you. I used to say "7-Pin Tubular Locks are more common, so if you're budget conscious just buy the 7-pin pick. If you have the money, and the need within your expected Area of Operations, buy the 7-pin pick and also buy the 8-pin pick." But, now I have a reason to update and change my advice. Because space in your gear bag is so completely valuable, I now say to almost everyone "IF a tubular lock makes sense to carry in the field, then just go ahead and carry the 7-to-8 Pin Convertible Pick."
